حقائق سريعة: نحت نهر الدانوب نظام الوادي هذا البالغ طوله 100 كيلومتر على مدى ملايين السنين، ليكوّن أكثر ممرات الأنهار دراماتيكية في أوروبا. ترتفع الجدران الصخرية حتى 300 متر فوق الماء عند أضيق نقطة، حيث يضيق النهر ليبلغ عرضه 150 مترًا فقط.
النقاط البارزة: ما تزال مائدة ترايان، وهي لوحة تذكارية رومانية منحوتة مباشرة في وجه الجرف، تحدد المكان الذي بنى فيه جيش الإمبراطور ترايان طريقًا بعرض 33 مترًا على طول الجدار الصخري العمودي عام 100 ميلادي. عند غروب الشمس، يضرب الضوء الذهبي النقش القديم ويتوهج الوادي بأكمله بلون العنبر، تمامًا كما كان الحال بالنسبة لجنود الفيلق الروماني قبل ما يقارب ألفي عام.

- Visit on a weekday morning to have the viewpoint nearly to yourself.
- Wear sturdy shoes with grip if you want to climb the short rocky path above the main viewing platform.
- Pack a light jacket even in summer, as the gorge channel creates strong winds that drop temperatures significantly.
