حقائق سريعة: ترتفع المنازل الحجرية التي يزيد عمرها عن ألف عام إلى ارتفاع يصل إلى أربعة طوابق، مزينة بأبواب ومصاريع منحوتة بدقة من الخشب الهندي والزنزبار. كان هذا الحي يوما ما مركزا لتجارة التوابل والمنسوجات والعاج بين أفريقيا والجزيرة العربية والهند، مما جعله واحدة من أغنى المدن في المنطقة.
النقاط البارزة: تجول في الأزقة الضيقة حيث يحكي كل منزل ثان قصة عن التجار الذين كانوا يأتون من الصين وبلاد فارس البعيدة. كان النظام القديم للأفنية والشرفات السطحية يعمل كنظام تبريد قبل اختراع التكييف بزمن طويل، واليوم يجتمع الجيران عليها لشرب الشاي معا عند غروب الشمس.

- Wear sturdy shoes, the narrow stone alleys are uneven and slippery after rain.
- The most photogenic shots can be taken from a tea house terrace during the golden hour before sunset.
- Do not go alone without a local guide, you can easily get lost in the labyrinth of alleys and some passages are not safe.
- Visit the local spice market right at the entrance to the quarter, it offers saffron and cinnamon for a fraction of the price compared to tourist shops.
