- Pack a jacket even in summer: temperatures at 1,560 meters can be 10°C cooler than the coast with sudden wind gusts.
- Skip the restaurant at the Parador and walk 5 minutes to the roadside stalls for fresh queso de flor (a local goat cheese made with thistle rennet).
- Arrive before 10 AM if you want the stone cross and mirador to yourselves, as tour buses start arriving mid-morning.
- The path behind the cross leads to a short unmarked trail with even better views over the caldera with almost no crowds.
