حقائق سريعة: حوالي 80 فيلاً يتيماً ومصاباً يعيشون ويتجولون بحرية عبر ممتلكات الواجهة النهرية البالغة 25 فداناً. كل صباح حوالي الساعة 10 صباحاً، يسير القطيع عبر الشوارع إلى النهر القريب لحمامهم اليومي الذي يستمر ساعتين، وهو موكب يجذب آلاف الزوار.
النقاط البارزة: على عكس حدائق الحيوان حيث تُفصل الحيوانات عن البشر بالأسوار، يعيش الرواق (المشرفون) جنباً إلى جنب مع أفيال محددة على مدار الساعة طوال أيام الأسبوع، مكونين روابط تدوم لعقود. أحد الرواق المسنين ويدعى سومابالا اعتنى بنفس الفيل الأعمى تيكيري لمدة 35 عاماً، وهي تتعرف على خطواته وصوته فوراً.

- Stand near the riverbank steps around 10am for the best view of the elephants splashing and drinking without fighting the crowd.
- Bring a change of clothes and water shoes if you want to wade into the river with the elephants, but keep a respectful 10-foot distance.
- The baby elephant feeding area gets packed by 9:30am, so arrive early and watch from the elevated platform behind the enclosure.
- Skip the souvenir shops inside the orphanage and buy from local vendors outside the gate where prices are 30-50% lower.
