حقائق سريعة: هنا نُحتت أربعة تماثيل لبوذا مباشرة في الجدار الجرانيتي. أكبرها تمثال بوذا المتكئ بطول 14 متراً الذي يرمز إلى الانتقال إلى النيرفانا.
النقاط البارزة: التمثال الجالس البالغ ارتفاعه 4.6 أمتار يضع ذراعيه متقاطعتين على صدره في إيماءة فريدة لا توجد في أي تمثال بوذا آخر في سريلانكا. الحجاج المعاصرون لا يزالون يتوقفون بصمت أمام تمثال بوذا الواقف، ملامسين الصخر الذي صقلته إيماءات التعبد على مدى ألف عام.
نصائح من الداخل
- Bring shoes that are easy to remove: you will have to walk barefoot on the sacred area around the statues, and the stone becomes scorching hot by midday.
- The best spot to photograph the reclining Buddha is from the southeast corner of the platform, with the early morning light behind you.
- Do not limit yourself to a frontal view: walk around the rock to notice the veins in the granite that the medieval monks skillfully avoided during carving.
- Arrive before 9:00 to have the site all to yourself: after 10:00 the organized bus groups arrive.
