Datos rápidos: Encaramada en una colina rocosa a 40 metros sobre el río, esta fortaleza medieval custodiaba en su día los accesos a Plovdiv. Sus imponentes murallas y sus nueve torres supervivientes datan del siglo XIII, cuando servía de fortaleza para los zares búlgaros.
Destacados: Fíjate bien en la muralla sudeste, donde un único relieve de piedra de un jinete a caballo está tallado en la mampostería, un raro símbolo medieval que ha sobrevivido.
