Datos rápidos: Ubicado en un llamativo edificio del siglo XIX que en su día fue un instituto femenino, el museo alberga más de 100.000 piezas que abarcan 8.000 años de historia. Una de sus posesiones más valiosas es el Tesoro de Oro de Panagyurishte, un conjunto de nueve vasijas de oro tracias elaboradas con gran detalle que pesan más de 6 kilogramos en total.
Destacados: El patio del museo esconde un pequeño mosaico original del siglo IV procedente de la antigua Filipópolis, todavía incrustado justo donde fue hallado bajo el edificio. Puedes ponerte sobre una plataforma de cristal directamente encima del mosaico y ver cómo la luz del sol se desplaza sobre miles de diminutas piedras de colores que han sido pisadas durante más de 1.600 años.
