Šetnja kroz park Hljómskálagarður

Mejor época para visitar

Late afternoon in autumn or winter, when the low sun filters through the trees and the steam vents become visible against the cold air. Summer evenings offer long, soft light and bird activity near the ponds.

Consejos para el presupuesto

Entirely free and open to the public year-round. Pack a thermos of coffee and a snack from a nearby bakery instead of buying anything inside, since there are no vendors within the park.

Acerca de

Datos rápidos: Tucked within Reykjavík's older neighborhoods, this park was shaped from a former garbage dump and landfill over decades of careful reclamation. More than 30 species of trees now grow here, including some of the tallest in the city, creating a microclimate that feels several degrees warmer than the streets nearby.

Destacados: A small geothermal stream trickles through the lower section, and steam rises from the ground near certain benches even on the coldest winter days. Locals know to bring a thermos and sit by the warm patches under the bare branches when the northern lights appear overhead.

Consejos de expertos

  • Enter from the southern gate near the residential streets to immediately see the tallest trees first, building the dramatic reveal.
  • Bring waterproof shoes in wet months the lower paths near the geothermal seepage stay muddy even when the rest of the park is dry.
  • The best photo spot is from the small wooden footbridge crossing the stream just before the central clearing, especially in late September when the leaves turn.
  • Skip the main paved loop and take the narrow dirt trail that curves uphill behind the pond for quieter views over the treetops.
