Acerca de

Datos rápidos: Two of Galileo's original fingers and a tooth are preserved in a glass case here, removed from his body by admirers in 1737. The museum holds 1,000 scientific instruments spanning the 11th through 19th centuries, including one of the earliest known astrolabes from 1085.

Destacados: The centerpiece is Galileo's own modified telescope, the very one through which he observed Jupiter's moons and first argued that the Earth moves around the Sun. Fingerprints of the man himself remain on the worn brass fittings, preserved exactly as he left them in 1610.

Consejos de expertos

  • Skip the audio guide and read the excellent English placards instead, they're just as detailed and free.
  • The second floor holds Galileo's personal instruments while the first floor covers earlier science, head straight up if you're pressed for time.
  • Photography is allowed without flash, so bring your camera for the intricate brass astrolabes and ornate globes.
  • Plan just 90 minutes for the main collection, the museum is compact with no cafe or large temporary exhibitions to slow you down.
