Datos rápidos: Alojado en un llamativo palacio neogótico del siglo XIX, este museo resguarda más de 180,000 artefactos de arte popular lituano. Su colección abarca esculturas de madera y cerámica, textiles y muebles pintados que rastrean la vida rural desde el siglo XVI hasta principios del siglo XX.
Destacados: Tres retablos de madera enormes e intrincadamente tallados del siglo XVIII dominan la sala principal, cada uno con un peso de más de dos toneladas y pintado en vívidos azules cobalto y rojos bermellón. Mira de cerca las cruces populares más pequeñas en exhibición: algunas miden solo quince centímetros de alto pero tienen más de 40 tallas en miniatura distintas.
