Datos rápidos: La vainilla de las plantaciones de la costa oriental que ofrecen los puestos cubre alrededor del 80 % de la producción natural mundial. Unos 300 comerciantes venden aquí especias, verduras, tejidos de rafia y tallas de madera, y cualquier precio se puede regatear hasta la mitad.
Destacados: En el pasillo lateral se celebra cada mañana una subasta de vainilla donde el precio por gramo sube en un minuto y el ganador paga en efectivo en el acto. Las bolsas de vainilla se colocan en una gran balanza metálica y el aire huele a vainilla dulce tan intensamente que la cabeza da vueltas.
