Datos rápidos: Esta isla barrera que resguarda la laguna de Ria Formosa alberga a 1,000 residentes permanentes que crecieron sin coches, solo con senderos de arena. Aquí no hay rascacielos ni complejos turísticos, sino pasarelas de madera y casas de pescadores pintadas de colores vivos.
Destacados: Los lugareños todavía juegan a un juego de cartas tradicional llamado Sueca en el único café de la isla hasta bien entrada la noche, y se puede oír la risa y el golpeteo de las cartas desde la arena. Toda la franja de arena del este se desplaza tanto con las tormentas de invierno que la forma de la playa cambia notablemente de un año a otro.

- Skip the closest restaurant to the ferry stop and walk 5 minutes further to the one with the blue door for better grilled fish and fewer flies.
- Pack a windbreaker even on sunny days, the Atlantic breeze picks up sharply after 3 PM along the unprotected eastern beach.
