Acerca de

Datos rápidos: Once a fire station, the yellow building now houses one of the most dynamic art residencies in the Middle East. The house attracts around 150,000 visitors annually, who explore contemporary works and studios free of charge.

Destacados: In the former sleeping quarters of the firefighters, up to 15 artists from around the world now work in modern studios whose glass walls completely reveal the creative process to visitors. As you walk through the corridors, you occasionally smell fresh paint and hear the hum of printing presses right next to works from the permanent collection comprising 9,000 pieces.

Consejos de expertos

  • Sit on the wooden benches in the inner courtyard, where the fire trucks used to park. An ideal spot for a break.
  • Photography is explicitly welcome in the studios. Feel free to ask the artists for a look at their current work.
  • The Garage Gallery on the ground floor often shows experimental installations that many visitors overlook.
  • Combine your visit with a walk to the nearby Museum of Islamic Art, just ten minutes away by the water.
