Mejor época para visitar

Late spring (May-June) for the rhododendron and azalea displays, or early autumn for the changing foliage. Visit on a weekday morning to avoid crowds and catch the glasshouses at their quietest.

Consejos para el presupuesto

The outdoor gardens are completely free to enter year-round, with paid tickets only required for the glasshouses (around £7.50 for adults). The Edinburgh City Pass includes glasshouse entry and also covers hop-on-hop-off bus transport to the gardens.

Acerca de

Datos rápidos: The gardens sprawl across 70 acres just a mile from Edinburgh city center, housing over 13,000 plant species from around the globe. Ten enormous Victorian glasshouses contain everything from towering Amazonian water lilies to 200-year-old cycads that predate the dinosaurs.

Destacados: Tucked inside the Temperate Palm House is a 150-year-old Chinese fan palm that survived both World Wars and a direct bomb blast in 1941, its scarred trunk still standing tall. The garden's Rock Garden, sprawling across four acres, is one of the largest in the world and blooms with alpine plants from the Himalayas that somehow thrive in Edinburgh's famously fickle weather.

Consejos de expertos

  • Enter through the East Gate on Inverleith Row for the most dramatic approach past the pond and up toward the glasshouses.
  • The Queen Mother's Memorial Garden behind the Palm House offers a quiet spot most tourists miss, with a lovely water feature and bench seating.
  • Bring a picnic, the grassy lawns spread across the lower section near Inverleith Park are perfect for a lunch with skyline views.
  • Skip the on-site cafe during peak hours, the Botanic Cottage tearoom serves better scones with fewer crowds.
