Maribor felt like a chill city with a nice mix of old charm and lively streets. Food was solid, especially local wine, but expect some places to close early. A 2-3 day stay felt just right to soak it all in.

Avoid taxis if possible, use the bus card thing locals get called Urbana. A single ticket costs more than the card, which you can recharge and save some euros especially if you plan to move around.

I found Maribor quite affordable compared to bigger European cities. Meals were tasty and portions generous, but tourist spots can jack prices a bit. Off the beaten path areas offer better deals.

For food, skip the restaurants around Glavni Trg square. Instead, try the small family-run taverns a few blocks out. Great prices and authentic flavors without the tourist markups.

Really loved the Riverside walk and the old town area, especially at sunset. It’s a great place to relax and people-watch. Wish I had stayed an extra night to catch the vibes after dark.
