Datos rápidos: Su colorido y ondulado techo presenta seis paneles gigantes de rayas diseñados por los artistas Enric Miralles y Benedetta Tagliabue, imitando los toldos de lona de los puestos de mercado tradicionales. Más de sesenta puestos venden productos frescos a diario, pero el verdadero atractivo del mercado son sus bares de tapas que sirven marisco pescado esa misma mañana.
Destacados: A diferencia de otros mercados que parecen trampas para turistas, aquí es donde las abuelitas locales todavía llevan sus carritos de la compra pasando por el especialista en setas que almacena treinta variedades. Los sábados por la mañana, verás a los vecinos haciendo cola por el mismo puesto de tortilla española que ha estado operando desde los orígenes del mercado en 1848, el vapor de las sartenes empañando el colorido techo de arriba.

- Skip the paella here; it's rarely made fresh in markets. Head straight to Barram or Ca l'Isidre for the best seafood.
- Look up as you enter: the colorful ceramic roof is actually shaped like the waves of the Mediterranean.
- Visit on a Saturday before noon to see whole fish laid out on ice in rainbow arrangements that photographers love.
- The market closes for siesta (2pm-5pm) so plan your tapas crawl accordingly or you'll find shuttered stalls.
