Datos rápidos: Sus paredes se elevan hasta 17 metros, una altura impresionante para un templo del siglo XII. Los arqueólogos han descubierto que la estatua original de Buda medía más de 4 metros, hoy solo quedan sus pies.
Destacados: A diferencia de otros templos de piedra, sus muros laterales fueron construidos en ladrillos rojos, una anomalía arquitectónica que lo hace casi único entre las ruinas de Polonnaruwa. Subiendo hasta el último piso, donde una vez se encontraba la estatua de Buda, se disfruta una vista impresionante de la jungla circundante que te hace entender por qué este lugar tenía un significado sagrado tan poderoso.

- Bring a white umbrella: it reflects heat and allows you to take creative photos with the red bricks in the background.
- The stairways are steep and without handrails, so wear closed shoes with non-slip soles.
- Do not skip the small side shrine dedicated to Vishnu: few visitors notice it, but it preserves fragments of well-preserved original frescoes.
