Acerca de

Datos rápidos: The Rhine cuts through Basel for roughly 10 kilometers, giving the city one of Europe's busiest inland river ports. Locals use special waterproof bags called "Wickelfisch" to swim with the current, drying off at riverside bars known as "Buvetten."

Destacados: In summer, hundreds of Baslers simply jump into the river upstream and float 2 kilometers downstream to their chosen Buvette, carrying all their belongings in those bright yellow Wickelfisch bags. Some boat tours pass the spot where the Rhine flows out of Switzerland into Germany and France, where three nations meet at the Dreiländereck.

Consejos de expertos

  • Book the sunset departure for the best photo light on the Münster cathedral and the Mittlere Brücke.
  • Sit on the left side of the boat for the best views of the old town skyline.
  • Bring a light jacket even in summer; the breeze on the water can be noticeably cooler than on land.
  • Combine your trip with a visit to the nearby Basel Münster, just a 5-minute walk from the landing dock.
