Datos rápidos: La producción de lana hizo inmensamente rica a esta ciudad en la antigüedad, con ovejas locales apreciadas por su vellón de color púrpura negruzco. Un terremoto masivo arrasó la ciudad en el siglo VII, dejando sus ruinas enterradas bajo 10 metros de limo aluvial.

Destacados: A diferencia de sus vecinos más llamativos, Hierápolis y Laodicea, este sitio permanece casi totalmente sin excavar, lo que significa que toda la ciudad romana yace dormida bajo campos de cultivo. Al caminar sobre el montículo cubierto de hierba, puedes sentir literalmente los contornos de calles y edificios justo bajo tus pies, intactos por arqueólogos durante más de 1,300 años.

• Wear sturdy walking shoes, the uneven terrain of the unexcavated tell (mound) is covered with loose stones and animal burrows.
• Visit after rain when the wet earth reveals pottery shards and tile fragments pushed to the surface, but never remove any artifacts.
• Stop at the Denizli Archaeology Museum afterward to see the few artifacts recovered from here, including coins and inscriptions.
• Bring binoculars to spot the faint outlines of the ancient theater and city walls visible in the contours of the wheat fields.
