Its reading rooms see about 1.7 million visitors annually, yet few realize that any adult with a valid ID can walk in and read for free.
Destacados: Tucked inside the Thomas Jefferson Building is a tiny, climate-controlled vault holding Thomas Jefferson's personal library of 6,487 books, which he sold to Congress in 1815 to restart the collection after the British burned the original.
