Faits rapides: La porte porte les armoiries d'un grand maître sculptées dans la pierre au-dessus de l'entrée, symbole du pouvoir qui contrôlait autrefois ce passage. À travers la voûte de la porte, chevaliers, soldats et marchands sont passés pendant plus de 300 ans.

Points forts: À l'intérieur de l'épaisse maçonnerie de la porte se trouve une petite salle de garde où les soldats pouvaient prendre les intrus en embuscade. Les gonds en fer d'origine qui soutenaient l'énorme porte en bois sont encore visibles et témoignent d'une époque révolue d'artisanat et de défense.

Look for the arrow slits in the stone walls on both sides of the passage, they reveal the gate's defensive function.
The best photo is taken from below with the gate framing the narrow street and the stairs behind.
Avoid hours between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM when cruise ships send large groups to the area.
Combine the visit with a trip to the Innsida Fortifications Visitor Centre nearby to better understand the defensive works.
