Necròpolis Paleocristiana
Meilleur moment pour visiter
Morning visits catch the low sun raking across the open walkways, which makes the mosaic floors and bone shadows much easier to read. Spring and early fall are the most comfortable seasons for the exposed outdoor sections.
Conseils budget
A standard ticket runs about 3 EUR, but the combined Roman Tarragona pass covers this plus seven other sites for a better deal. Kids and students get reduced rates, and the same ticket includes the small museum of funerary objects.

À propos
Faits rapides: Around 2,000 tombs pack this cemetery, one of the largest early Christian burial grounds in the western Mediterranean. Construction workers leveling ground for a tobacco factory stumbled onto the first graves in 1923, and the finds range from simple earth pits to mosaic-floored mausoleums.
Points forts: Look into the narrow burial channels and you'll spot infants laid head to toe inside giant reused wine amphorae, a frugal coffin trick that still looks haunting today. One mosaic floor spells out the dead child's name in colored tiles, and the worn spot at the head of the grave marks where mourners poured wine offerings through a libation pipe for centuries.
Conseils d'initiés
- Wear sturdy shoes, the steel walkways over the tombs get slippery after rain and the gravel paths are uneven.
- Photograph the mosaics from the second-level walkway, the patterns and inscriptions read far better from above.
- Skip the audiovisual room if you're short on time and spend those minutes reading the epitaphs up close instead.
- Pair this with the nearby Roman circus and amphitheater, all three sit within a 10-minute walk and share the same pass.

Oui, vraiment gratuites. Pas besoin de carte de crédit. Pas de piège.
