About

त्वरित तथ्य: Tidal channels and barrier islands weave into a roughly 60-kilometer network of lagoons, marshes, and sandbanks that funnel migrating birds and marine life. More than 200 bird species show up each year, and shallow nursery waters support fish and bivalves harvested by local small-scale fishers.

मुख्य आकर्षण: Low tides peel back shallow channels so you can wade barefoot and often find flamingos or herons within 50 meters, their reflections shimmering on flat salt pans. Salt pans and clam beds smell sharply of brine while hand-harvesters using wooden rakes pull up to 100 kilograms of shellfish on strong days, selling catches at neighborhood markets.

Insider tips

  • Wear sturdy sandals or water-resistant shoes and sun protection, terrain includes mudflats and sandy paths.
  • Bring binoculars and a telephoto lens for close-up shots of flamingos and migrating waders.
  • Catch the golden hour at the salt pans or barrier islands for best photos and quieter paths.
  • Skip private charters when on a budget, take the regular ferry or shared eco-tours and visit on weekdays to avoid crowds.

Arrived at 8am and had the lagoon almost to myself; the 18 euro boat tour was totally worth it and the walking trails are free and beautiful. 5 stars.

Came at midday when it was crowded; a small parking fee and a 20 euro boat felt overpriced, the scenery is nice but logistics were annoying. 3 stars.

Visited late afternoon, boardwalks were busy but birdwatching was excellent; guided boat was 25 euros and added real value. 4 stars.
