クイックファクト: 上流の火山からのターコイズ色の融水が、真っ黒な火山砂に囲まれた湖を満たしている。その砂は昼頃には裸足に痛いほど熱くなる。水を試してみれば水着の魅力はすぐに失せる。2月でも水温は5°C前後で、湖岸は山の融雪の具合で目に見えて後退したり前進したりする。
見どころ: 短い森の小道を進むと、15メートルの玄武岩の崖にたどり着く。そこでは流出する水がすべて渦巻く渓谷に注ぎ込み、穏やかな朝には滝を目にする前に胸の奥でその振動を感じる。地元の人々は、黒い砂は火山が粉砕されて噴火によって運ばれてきたものだと言う。つまり、タオルの下の砂は文字通り火山の歴史なのだ。
