概要

クイックファクト: ここには約40万点の蔵書が棚に並んでいるが、本当の目玉は北極圏の文学コレクションで、北欧各国から研究者がわざわざ利用しに訪れる。アルヴァ・アアルトによるオリジナルの扇形閲覧室はいまだに建物の中心をなし、地熱暖房を追加した改修を経て2015年に再オープンした。

見どころ: メインホールの座席はすべて中央の司書机に向かって角度がついており、アアルトが職員から来館者を一目で見つけられるようにと描いた扇形のレイアウトである。外側のカーブに立つと、部屋は劇場のように広がり、床から天井まで届く窓が北からの光を棚の全面に降り注がせる。
