Mykonos is generally safe and foreigner-friendly, but the island's tourism density brings common rip-offs around taxis, dining and excursions. The biggest watchpoints are overcharging at restaurants without clear menus, unlicensed drivers, and high-pressure tour and scooter rental sales. Use official ranks, read menus carefully, and pay in euros to stay safe.

1. Unlicensed drivers at the airport
手口: Drivers approach arrivals inside the terminal or outside the official rank, offering rides at inflated flat rates with no meter or receipt. Fares can be double or triple the official price.
回避方法: Walk to the official taxi rank. Confirm the price or meter before getting in. Refuse anyone approaching you first.
2. Missing or unclear menu prices
手口: Some restaurants near the port, Little Venice and Matoyianni Street present dishes without prices, then charge inflated amounts on the bill. A cover or service charge may also be added unexpectedly.
回避方法: Ask for a menu with prices before ordering. Review the bill item by item and question any unexplained charge.
3. Scooter and ATV rental pressure
手口: Rental shops push scooters and ATVs with vague insurance terms, then charge for any scratch or damage. Accidents and theft claims can lead to large bills.
回避方法: Inspect the vehicle, photograph existing damage, read the rental contract and insurance terms fully before signing.
4. Beach transfer overcharging
手口: Private drivers near the port offer rides to popular beaches at flat rates well above the local bus cost, which runs frequently in summer at a few euros.
回避方法: Use the public KTEL bus network for beach routes. Compare the posted bus fare before accepting any private ride.
