概要
クイックファクト: 高さ132メートルのそびえ立つオベリスクは、約35キロの金箔で覆われた炎が頂上を飾り、太陽の光を浴びて溶けた鉄の灯台のように輝く。エレベーターで展望台に上がれば、360度の市街を一望でき、日没後に街の灯りが点灯する様子を眺めるのには絶好のスポットとなっている。
見どころ: 地下の博物館に降りると、51のジオラマが描かれた背景、マネキン、録音された声を用いて歴史的な重要場面を再現しており、歴史が不思議に演劇的で臨場感あふれるものに感じられる。あまり知られていないが、独立記念日である8月17日には大統領旗掲揚式が芝生で行われ、ドラムの音、行進するブーツの音、そして金メッキの炎の下に集まる群衆でにぎわう。
