クイックファクト: Roughly 2,000 years old, this five-arch crossing was the city's only bridge over the Adige for many centuries. Troops blew it apart in 1945, and the river later gave back most of its original Roman stones, which craftsmen reassembled by hand by 1957.

見どころ: When retreating soldiers destroyed the bridge in April 1945, local residents hauled hundreds of the original Roman blocks out of the riverbed so the span could rise again. Look closely and you will spot pale white marble scavenged from old Roman ruins sitting beside the softer local stone, a living mosaic of 2,000 years of reuse.

• Wear shoes with good grip, the 2,000-year-old slabs are worn glassy smooth and get slick after rain.
