ハイキング自体は無料だが、宮島からのロープウェイは片道約1,100円、往復1,800円。大聖院コースを登ってロープウェイで下山すれば節約できる。また、山頂の茶店で買う代わりに弁当を持参しよう。

概要
クイックファクト: 山頂からは瀬戸内海のパノラマビューを楽しむことができ、この景色はフランスの旅行ガイド「ミシュラン」で世界第3位にランクされた。もみじ谷コースには約900段の石段が続き、標高535メートルの山頂へと通じる3つの登山道のうちの一つである。
見どころ: 上部斜面の杉林に隠れて、野生の鹿が登山道のすぐ近くまでやってくる。山頂には小さな神社があり、西暦806年から燃え続けているとされる火が祀られている。その同じ火が広島の平和記念公園の平和の灯を灯すために使われ、この山は日本の回復力の歴史と生きたつながりを持つ場所となっている。

- 西側の大聖院コースはもみじ谷より混雑が少なく、歴史的な石像の前を通る。静けさを求めるならこちらを選ぼう。
