概要
クイックファクト: 本物の極地探検船に乗り込むと、木製デッキの軋みと氷の静けさを感じ、狭い船室とオリジナルの航法機器が、初期の探検家たちの困難を生々しく伝える。内部には探検用の橇、科学機器、船員の日記が展示され、大胆な極地航路が計画された船体内に立つことができる。
見どころ: 1893年から1896年までフリチョフ・ナンセンの下で三年間氷に閉ざされ、その後1910年の南極探検でロアール・アムンセンを乗せた、あの極地探検船そのものに乗り込むことができる。つまり、彼らが歩いた甲板を実際に歩くのだ。低い木造の船底には、今もタールと冷たい木の鋭い香りが漂い、狭い寝台では肩をすくめざるを得ない。真鍮の六分儀と霜でひび割れた航海日誌が薄明かりの下で輝き、船体に氷が軋む音が聞こえてきそうだ。
