City feels safe in the main areas but be cautious after dark around the quieter streets.
Loved the local food scene, especially the pastéis de nata and seafood. Prices were reasonable for Portugal standards.
Stayed 4 days and felt it was just right to explore the old town and nearby beaches without rushing.
If you want to save on public transport, get a daily bus pass. Also many museums have free entry on Sundays afternoon, plan accordingly.
Avoid eating right near the university square, walk a few blocks off center for better prices and more authentic dishes.
