概要
クイックファクト: 大西洋岸から500メートルの高さに位置するこの宮殿の、大胆な深紅とからし色のファサードは、かつてこの場所にあった修道院の回廊に触発されたものである。フェルナンド2世は廃墟となった中世の修道院をポルトガル王室の夏の離宮に改装し、ゴシック、ムーア、ルネサンスの要素を一つの風変わりな作品に融合させた。
見どころ: 宮殿の外壁をよく見ると、テラスの壁に巨大な石のサラマンダーが張り付いているのがわかる。この生き物は、卑金属を金に変える錬金術の変容を象徴している。宮殿の元の所有者であるフェルナンド2世は、周囲の公園に世界中から500種以上の樹木を植え、今日でも豊かで別世界のような雰囲気を感じさせる微気候を作り出した。

- 観光客で混み合うシャトルバスを避け、シントラ駅から森の中の公園を15分上り坂を歩けば、メインの人混みを過ぎて到着できます。
