Best time to visit

Sunset on clear days delivers golden light and an illuminated skyline; weekdays are usually less crowded than weekends. Late spring through early fall offers longer evenings and clearer views.

Budget tips

Park entry is free, no passes required; parking near the viewpoint is limited and often metered. Save by taking the 2 or 13 bus, walking from nearby Queen Anne, or combining the stop with other free neighborhood walks.

About

クイックファクト: Perched high above a residential slope, the viewpoint frames a skyline that stacks a needle-shaped tower, shimmering water, and a distant snowcapped peak into a single, photogenic line. About 1.2 acres of manicured grass and benches draw photographers and picnickers, who crowd the railing at golden hour to catch vivid color shifts and long-exposure light trails.

ハイライト: Golden light draws roughly 20–30 photographers to the center railing before sunset, each angling lenses to stack the needle with a snowcapped peak for a perfect silhouette. Faint ferry horns and the tang of salt air heighten the scene, while camera shutters click every few seconds and couples squeeze onto the best spot of railing to capture their skyline shot.

Insider tips

  • Dress in layers, evening breezes make it chillier than downtown.
  • Bring a small tripod or monopod for dusk shots, handheld low-light photos will be softer.
  • Arrive 20–30 minutes before sunset to secure a good bench or vantage point.
  • If the center bench is full, step a few meters left for a wider composition that includes Elliott Bay.

Golden hour at 7pm was magic, I got a great skyline shot after arriving 45 minutes early. The park is tiny and free, bring layers, seating is limited.

Went at 2pm with a stroller and it was packed, had to wait 20 minutes for a clear photo. Park is free but the crowd made it less relaxing.

Arrived at 6:30am and had the place nearly to myself. Sunset views were priceless, parking was tight but free, totally worth the early wake up.
