The contemporary museum, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira and opened in 1999, was deliberately kept low to let the landscape rule the view, and local guides still tell the quirky story that early morning fog once forced a whole exhibition to be moved outdoors, turning the park into an accidental open-air gallery.
