Korte feiten: De Rode Moskee is een van de slechts twee overgebleven moskeeën uit de middeleeuwse vestingwijk van Berat, gelegen binnen het heuvelfortcomplex. De minaret stortte in tijdens het communistische tijdperk, maar het overgebleven metselwerk onthult de kenmerkende rode tint waaraan de moskee haar naam dankt.

Hoogtepunten: Van dichtbij kun je de originele Ottomaanse metselwerkpatronen en fragmenten van de gebedsruimtemuren nog zien die aan de heuveltop kleven, tegen een panoramisch uitzicht over de vallei. De kale, dakloze staat van de structuur laat je de indeling van de oude gebedsruimte traceren en je de gemeente voorstellen die verdween na het verbod op religieuze praktijk in Albanië in 1967.
