Korte feiten: Het vaartuig is 43,6 meter lang en werd herbouwd uit 1.224 planken van cederhout en acacia die met touw waren vastgebonden, zonder één spijker of pin. Toen in 1954 het kalkstenen deksel van de kuil werd getild, kwamen er 650 keurig gestapelde stukken tevoorschijn, en de kuil rook na 4.500 jaar nog steeds vaag naar cederhout en hars.
Hoogtepunten: Stap op het verhoogde looppad en zweef pal boven de verouderde romp, dicht genoeg om de rode roeiriemen, touwnaden en geschilderde hiërogliefen te volgen die scheepsbouwers vier en een half millennium geleden achterlieten. Meesterrestaurateur Hag Ahmed Youssef besteedde 14 jaar aan het opnieuw vastrijgen van de geborgen stukken met nieuw touw en houten pinnen, wat betekent dat de boot voor je echt origineel is, alleen liefdevol weer in elkaar gezet.

- Arrive at opening time to get the upper viewing balcony to yourself before tour groups pack the walkway by mid-morning.
- For the best photos, stand at the far end of the top deck and aim downward, that angle frames the starboard oars without glass glare.
- Skip the paid audio guide and read the wall diagrams near the bow instead, they show exactly how rope, not glue, held the planks.
- Dress for the sun and carry water, the hall is climate controlled but the exposed walkway between the plateau and the entrance has no shade.
