Eén overgebleven obelisk torent nog steeds 25 meter boven de binnenplaats uit, terwijl de vermiste tegenhanger nu op de Place de la Concorde in Parijs staat.
Hoogtepunten: Een klim naar het dak van de Abu Haggag-moskee onthult een middeleeuwse koepel die direct bovenop oude zuilen ligt, zodat je Egyptisch steenwerk en Islamitische bogen kunt zien die eeuwen uit elkaar gestapeld zijn. Vanaf hetzelfde dak spot je de Romeinse tijd muurschildering van gepantserde soldaten die latere gelovigen dwars over de reliëfs van de farao's heen schilderden.
