Korte feiten: Wandelend door de Spiegelzaal schitteren rijen spiegels en kristallen kroonluchters zo fel dat zonlicht zichzelf lijkt te vermenigvuldigen. De uitgestrekte tuinen vormen een geometrisch spektakel met honderden beelden en fonteinen, hun ritmische waterstromen geven een onverwachte, bijna theatrale pauze van de weelderige binnenruimtes.
Hoogtepunten: Wist je dat in de beroemde Spiegelgalerij 357 glanzende spiegels tegenover evenveel hoge ramen zijn geplaatst, waardoor bij zonlicht heel de zaal verandert in een fonkelende zee van goud en licht. Verder liet Marie-Antoinette in het park haar eigen Hameau de la Reine bouwen, compleet met rieten daken, een mini-molen en een werkend zuivelhuisje waar ze in simpele mousselinejurken speelde en de geur van versgeslagen boter rondhing.
