In de ouderwetse hoek van het terrein draaien eeuwenoude carrousels op brassbandmuziek, waar gepensioneerden in gekreukte lederhosen op de zaagvloer een polka inzetten.

- Reserve a table well in advance, since the big tents sell out weeks ahead and walk-ins end up in standing-room-only corrals
- Photograph the glowing fairground from the Ferris wheel at night, then slip out through the quieter east-side gates near the colossal statue
- Keep cash in a front pocket, because packed tents get picked over during the anthem sing-alongs
