Korte feiten: Met een hoogte van 26 meter en massieve Dorische zuilen markeerde deze zandstenen poort de westelijke toegang tot de stad. Frederik de Grote gaf opdracht tot de bouw als symbool van de Pruisische overwinning en de poort is bijna twintig jaar ouder dan de beroemdere versie in Berlijn.

Hoogtepunten: Het dak van de poort was oorspronkelijk ontworpen als een uitkijkterras waar Pruisische vorsten naar militaire parades keken die onder de boog door marcheerden. U kunt nog steeds kogelgaten uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog in het zandsteenoppervlak zien, subtiele littekens die de naoorlogse restauratie hebben overleefd.
