Korte feiten: Devoten staan dagelijks in de rij voor de rituele voeding van honderden apen die samenkomen op het tempelterrein. In tegenstelling tot de meeste hindoetempels waar de hogepriester een brahmaan is, voert hier een lid van de lokale stamgemeenschap de heilige rituelen uit.
Hoogtepunten: Elke avond komt de tempel tot leven met een betoverende uitvoering van Theyyam, een 2000 jaar oude rituele dans waarin performers via uitgebreide kostuums en trance-achtige bewegingen in levende godheden veranderen. De hoofdgodenheid wordt nooit vertegenwoordigd door een gebeeldhouwd standbeeld maar door een bronzen spiegel genaamd een valkannadi, die het gezicht van elke devoot reflecteert terwijl deze ervoor staat.
