Korte feiten: Wandelend onder brede lanen van plataan en eik, kun je damherten rustig zien grazen op de gazons, een verrassend rustige wilde dieren scène ingebed in een stedelijk landschap. Bezoekers ontdekken vaak dat de dierentuin ter plaatse meeslepende habitats en honderden dieren heeft die een gewone wandeling veranderen in een reeks levendige, hoorbare ontmoetingen die gezinnen verrukken.
Hoogtepunten: Ongeveer 1.750 hectare glooiende gazons en boomlanen herbergen een vrij rondlopende kudde van ongeveer 400 damherten, dus op een rustige avond kun je zachte hoefgeluiden horen en hoorntjes zien tegen het Wellington Monument. De stadsdierentuin, opgericht in 1831, zit nog steeds in 19e-eeuwse bakstenen paviljoens waar de geur van hooi en de warme stenen onder de voeten de ochtendrondes van de verzorgers als een levende Victoriaanse ansichtkaart doen aanvoelen.
