Korte feiten: Sint Patrick zeilde rond 441 na Christus langs Clew Bay en zou naar verluidt zijn voetafdruk op een rots op deze plek hebben achtergelaten. Het standbeeld zelf is een bronzen werk uit de jaren 80 van beeldhouwer Séamus Connolly en staat bij de oude steen waar de afdruk van de heilige nog zichtbaar is.

Elk jaar op de feestdag van de heilige gieten de lokale bevolking water in de holte en als het blijft staan, zegt de legende dat het jaar dat voor de deur staat geluk zal brengen.
