Hoogtepunten: Het plein is gebouwd op de ruïnes van een oud Romeins stadion en behoudt nog steeds de exacte ovale vorm van de originele arena waar eens strijdwagens raceten. De Vierstromenfontein, gemaakt door Bernini in 1651, toont riviergoden die vier continenten vertegenwoordigen, met een opvallend realistische leeuw die zo levendig leek dat het de lokale bevolking schrik aanjoeg bij de onthulling.
