Korte feiten: Gevestigd in een opvallend 19e-eeuws neogotisch paleis, bewaart dit museum meer dan 180.000 artefacten van Litouwse volkskunst. De collectie omvat houten en keramische sculpturen, textiel en beschilderde meubels die het plattelandsleven van de 16e eeuw tot het begin van de 20e eeuw weergeven.
Hoogtepunten: Drie enorme, ingewikkeld gesneden houten altaarstukken uit de 18e eeuw domineren de grote zaal, elk meer dan twee ton zwaar en beschilderd in levendig kobaltblauw en vermiljoenrood. Kijk goed naar de kleinste volkskruisjes die worden getoond: sommige meten slechts vijftien centimeter maar bevatten meer dan 40 verschillende miniatuur houtsnijwerken.

- The textile gallery on the second floor has a low-light photography restriction, but the wooden sculpture hall allows flash-free photos.
- Wear comfortable shoes: the original hardwood floors creak beautifully but several staircases have uneven 18th-century steps.
- Arrive by 11 AM on Saturdays to catch the free 20-minute folk instrument demonstration in the basement workshop.
