Korte feiten: Vier enorme stenen bogen rijzen 11 meter hoog op, uitgehouwen uit roze graniet dat van 40 kilometer verderop is gehaald. Het monument herdenkt de Slag bij Junín van 1824, een van de laatste conflicten in de Peruaanse onafhankelijkheidsoorlog van Spanje.
Hoogtepunten: In tegenstelling tot de opvallendere monumenten in andere Andes-steden, is deze gemaakt van kolossale roze granietblokken die bij zonsondergang brandend oranje gloeien. Omwonenden komen hier elke avond samen voor spontane straatkraampjes met eten en dominospelletjes, waardoor het een levende gemeenschapsruimte is in plaats van een statisch monument.

- Come around 5 PM to catch the sunset light hitting the granite blocks and turning them a deep orange.
- Bring small coins to buy anticuchos (grilled beef heart skewers) from the vendors who set up nearby in the evening.
- Skip going inside the archway itself during midday the sun is harsh and the shadows offer no relief.
- Combine this with a walk through the nearby Plaza de Armas, just 5 minutes on foot.
