Korte feiten: Dit uitgestrekte park van 3000 hectare, de thuisbasis van het grootste ijzerhoutbos van Sri Lanka, herbergt zeldzame endemische bomen die al eeuwen staan. De naam vertaalt zich naar "Nationale Rozenhouttuin", maar de echte blikvanger is de torenhoge roze kwartsberg die gloeit bij zonsopgang.
Hoogtepunten: De roze kwartsberg hier is een van de grootste afzettingen van dit gesteente in Azië, een 600 miljoen jaar oud geologisch wonder dat verandert van zacht roze naar diep koraalrood terwijl de zon over de hemel beweegt. Bezoekers kunnen recht op de zichtbare kwartslaag aflopen en de warme, glinsterende steen aanraken die bijna buitenaards aanvoelt onder uw vingers.
