Fatos rápidos: Uma pequena ilha no lago Petén Itzá está ligada ao continente por uma passarela de apenas 500 metros de comprimento. Os indígenas Itzá ali construíram outrora a sua capital Tayasal, a última cidade maia independente, que caiu somente em 1697.

Destaques: À noite, toda a vila na ilha se transforma num brilho colorido quando as fachadas pastel das casas se acendem e se refletem na superfície escura do lago.
