Fatos rápidos: Devotos fazem fila diariamente para a alimentação ritual de centenas de macacos que se reúnem nos terrenos do templo. Diferente da maioria dos templos hindus, onde o sacerdote principal é um brâmane, aqui um membro da comunidade tribal local realiza os rituais sagrados.
Destaques: Todas as noites, o templo ganha vida com uma apresentação hipnotizante de Theyyam, uma dança ritual de 2.000 anos onde os performers se transformam em divindades vivas por meio de trajes elaborados e movimentos de transe. A divindade principal nunca é representada por uma estátua esculpida, mas por um espelho de bronze chamado valkannadi, que reflete o rosto de cada devoto ao se colocar diante dele.
