Fatos rápidos: O distrito murado de 64 hectares abriga igrejas, praças e ruas de paralelepípedos que sobreviveram a séculos de mudanças, incluindo intensos bombardeios durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Seus 4,5 quilômetros de muralhas e fossos cercavam toda a cidade colonial espanhola, tornando-o o distrito mais antigo de Metro Manila.
Destaques: Ao anoitecer, o Baluarte de San Diego esconde uma rede de túneis revestidos de pedra que um dia conectaram canhões e postos de guarda, e você ainda pode percorrer suas passagens em arco sob a grama. A Igreja de San Agostinho aqui é o único edifício do distrito que sobreviveu intacto à Batalha de Manila de 1945, e seus cadeirais de madeira entalhada datam dos anos 1600.
